The Director General of Employment (DGE), Ministry of Labour & Employment launched the scheme of the setting up of NCSC (National Career Service Centre) for DA with the assistance of the USA in 1968. At present, there are 24 NCSC for DA in the country, which evaluate the residual capacities of the handicapped (referred to as persons with disabilities also) in the categories of Locomotor, Visual & Hearing impaired, Mild Mental Retardation, and Leprosy Cured and provide them adjustment training, to facilitate their early economic rehabilitation. No formal job-oriented skill training is provided at these centers. Further rehabilitation services are extended to persons with disabilities living in rural areas through mobile camps. These 24 NCSCs for DA are located at Agartala, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Dimapur, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Patna, Puducherry, Ranchi, Shillong, Sri Nagar, Trivandrum, Una, Vadodara. Out of these Vadodara is exclusively for women.
